And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, “Bow the knee!” So he set him over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
Genesis 41:38-44 (NKJV)
Joseph went through a lot of difficulty in his life. He was hated by his brothers and then betrayed by them when they sold him off into slavery. They caused him a lot of grief. While he was still trying to live with that, he got framed by Potiphar’s wife, which led to his being thrown into prison.
Imagine how life felt for Joseph: from being the favoured son of a wealthy man to jealousy, hatred and betrayal, and to being a slave. Even then, he still worked hard and feared God and rose to the rank of head of staff in Potiphar’s house. He was favoured by Potiphar and it looked like he was finally picking up the pieces of his life when disaster struck again in form of Potiphar’s wife. It must have been difficult for Joseph to still keep his faith in God, but he did.
It may be easy to assume that the temptation to be bitter and give up was not there, but it was, yet Joseph did not give in. He still kept on doing God’s work and interpreting dreams even in prison so that he became the head of the prisoners there. To worsen the matter, the cupbearer, Joseph's fellow inmate, did not keep his promise to remember him and forgot about him immediately he got out of prison.
From the events of Joseph's life, he had a history of being let down by people. However, despite this, he never gave up or allowed the disappointments to damage his good heart and character. He passed the test. He was long-suffering and he faithfully endured till the end, so God elevated him. He also forgave his brothers for all they did to him and God proved himself faithful in his life.
Beloved, be like Joseph and pass the test so you can be elevated by God in due season.
