OUR FAITHFUL SHEPHERD (PART 2)

October 16:2020

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
Psalm 23:1-6 (NKJV)

`

The twenty-third chapter of the book of Psalms reveals the post-redemptive relationship that all believers are to enjoy with Jesus Christ as our shepherd. He is our shepherd by covenant; however, He is not just a shepherd; He is our good shepherd. It is important that we understand and always emphasize His goodness if we are to appreciate the role He plays as our shepherd in this dispensation.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” – John 10:11-16

Jesus is not a selfish, greedy or wicked shepherd. He shepherds us not because He has anything to gain from us but purely out of His unconditional love for us. He will always be good to us no matter what, even when we behave badly towards Him. He is not our Shepherd because of our good works but because of the Father’s great love for us.

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” – Ephesians 2:4-7

Beloved, get ready for an overflow of God’s goodness in your life! Get ready for unprecedented dimensions of His goodness before the end of this year! Amen.
