Stay Safe

May 17:2019

For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.
Proverbs 1:32-33

“We dwell in the secret place of the most high …” is a confession we make weekly in church and almost daily in our personal devotions. It is from Psalm 91, which is a psalm of protection.

It is God’s desire that we stay safe from harm and that we learn how to overcome the evils of this world. He did not promise us a world devoid of evil, He did not promise us smooth sailing, but He promised that He would be with us and lead us even when we pass through the valley of the shadow of death.

In His leading us, God will give us instructions. He will tell us what to do so we can avoid any forthcoming evil or destruction. Examples of His deliverance abound in the Bible. When He was about to send a flood to the earth, He gave Noah instructions to build an ark to save himself and his family (Genesis 6:13-22; Genesis 7:1-24). When He was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, He sent His angel to warn Lot and His family and to lead them out (Genesis 19:12-22).

When Herod was planning to kill children of a certain age so he could also kill Jesus, God warned Joseph in a dream to flee to Egypt to avoid the massacre (Matthew 2:13-18). An angel of God appeared to Paul while they were on the sea and gave him instructions on what must be done for them to survive the journey (Acts 27:21-26).

God does not leave His children without hope or any form of help. He always sends His instructions, which if we obey, we will live. Our bible verse says “…but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil”. When we listen to God’s instruction concerning any matter and obey Him, we will live, we will flourish and bear much fruit, and we will be financially secure.

Beloved, God’s warnings and instructions will come to you in diverse ways. You must stay in tune with the Holy Spirit and open up your hearts to Him. He is always speaking and directing. Hear Him today, obey Him and you will be safe from harm.
