THE POWER OF ASSOCIATION

Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
1 Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV)

`

Wilson got admission into the university to study Physics. On the day he arrived, he met a lot of people, but he could not fit in because he was quiet and shy. For the first three weeks, he moved about silently on campus, minding his business and going for his classes.

One day, while he was eating his lunch in the cafeteria, another boy (Dennis) walked in, spotted him and took the seat next to him. Dennis was a popular boy in school and had equally popular friends. He began to ask Wilson a few questions and then invited him to join him and his friends for a drink. He promised Wilson that those friends of his had what it took to make Wilson admired and respected on campus.

The next day, in the evening, Wilson went to meet his ‘friend' at the appointed place. His new friends welcomed him warmly and bought some round of drinks for him; they also offered him some white substance, which made him feel ‘on top of the world'. From that day onwards, it was a downward spiral for Wilson – his days were filled with drugs, parties, drinking, smoking and girls. He did not graduate from the university.

Child of God, bad company corrupts good people. When you stay in constant fellowship with the wrong company, you will be influenced by them. The Bible enjoins us to choose our companions and company carefully; not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly or stand in the path of sinners (Psalm 1:1).

The spirit of the world works against God; the more you associate closely with worldly people, the more you stray away from God. Anyone that goes down this path will eventually lose fellowship with God and cut short his or her destiny.

Beloved, set your sights on Jesus and His standards. Resolve from today to be a companion of only those who love God. Walk with the wise and you will become wise.
