ONE ORCHESTRA, ONE SOUND – THE POWER OF UNITY

June 18:2019

Now the whole earth had one language and one speech…Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
Genesis 11:1-7

they propose to do will be withheld from them. – Genesis 11:1-7 (NKJV)

Harmony is defined as the combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce a pleasing effect. These notes are usually made from different unrelated instruments and they produce melodious sounds that we enjoy.

In an orchestra, there are various instruments, violins, harps, guitars, piano, cellos, flutes, trumpets, drums, cymbals, among others; there are also the singers – bass, tenor, soprano, alto, etc. All these come together to form a piece of very distinct organized music quite agreeable to the ears – it is a group with one sound. But when a singer sings off key or when the violinist begins to play an unrecognizable or unpractised note, it brings about a disharmony. It becomes a cacophony and takes the joy away from the music. They no longer have one sound.

In the body of Christ, we are created to be like an orchestra with one sound. We are all created with distinct gifts and talents, but we are all to work together to create a harmony which is pleasant to God and to all. This is how we will begin to affect the world. When they see unity among us, they will begin to desire what we have.

Our unity as Christians is important. We can achieve much more united than divided. A collection of broomsticks sweep effectively, but one or two broomsticks cannot do much work. They need to be a part of the whole. Our orchestra will sound melodious if we stay focused on our mission and stay connected to one another.

“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them” (Romans 12:4-5).

We all have different gifts, individually and corporately, with which we are to function for the furtherance of the gospel and populating the Kingdom of God, but we can only achieve our goal when we all stay together and connected, and do our own part. Together, we can achieve more.

Beloved, get connected to the family of God. Join the orchestra, play your part effectively, serve in the body, do not disconnect, and God’s vision for your life will be fulfilled to His glory. Amen!
