And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:16 (NKJV)

God is not Philia – love based on the affectionate friendship between equals and among family members. His love is greater than the love between a mother and a child. Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me (Isaiah 49:15-16).

God’s love is not Eros – the Greek mythical profession of passionate love. God’s love is greater than the passionate emotions between newly married couples. For the Lord has called you back from your grief—as though you were a young wife abandoned by her husband says your God. “For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will take you back. In a burst of anger I turned my face away for a little while. But with everlasting love I will have compassion on you," says the Lord, your Redeemer (Isaiah 54:6-8).

God is Agape! This is the God-kind of love. This love cannot come to an end, it cannot change into hatred and it cannot be influenced by our actions. We did not earn God’s love by works or right living. While we were at our worst, Jesus died for us. God’s love is unconditional love; we can’t lose it and we can’t stop it.

Beloved, as long as you abide in His love, there is no mistake big enough, no sin grave deep enough, no behaviour vile enough to short-circuit the love of God for you.

Prayer & Confession of Faith

God loves me unconditionally. He demonstrated this love by sending Jesus to die for me. God is mindful of me; He cares for me. He is my Father and He loves me. I receive and embrace God’s love. Thank You, Father, for loving me so much. Hallelujah!
