For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Romans 8:13‬ (‭NKJV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Our bodies are earth suits that God has given us to live on earth, just as spacesuits are required to go to outer space. A spacesuit, if it had a voice cannot say to the astronaut, Today, I will not be worn or I don’t feel like going on today’s space mission. But, odd as this may seem, this is exactly what we do when as born-again Christians - we take directions from our ‘suits’!

The difference between the spacesuit and your ‘earth suit’ is that your body is alive and can speak to you. The scripture clearly says that if one lives by its direction, he or she will die, but if one lives according to the dictates of the Spirit, that person will live.

You may be wondering what this means to you? Have you ever told God that you would wake up to pray and fellowship with Him daily at a certain time, and He faithfully awaited fellowship with you, only for you to ask Him to hold on till another time of the day when it is convenient for you? Have you committed to giving your tithes each month, only to remind Him of the roof that needs repairs, hence you won’t be giving a tithe that month? Has He ever warned you about your eating habits, yet you tell yourself that you cannot help the way you eat and maintain the status quo?

The list of how and when we give into the flesh is endless. We need to be reminded that the end therein is death. God has given us the ability to obey Him and even keep the commitments we make to Him. Indulging the flesh may be pleasurable for the moment but the end is always unpleasant. Overcoming temptation requires deliberate action and one we all need to take seriously to have life in abundance. Once you are ready to live in the fullness of His Spirit, God’s ability becomes available to you.

My counsel is this: Live freely, animated and motivated by God's Spirit. Then you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness. For there is a root of sinful self-interest in us that is at odds with a free spirit, just as the free spirit is incompatible with selfishness. These two ways of life are antithetical so that you cannot live at times one way and at times another way according to how you feel on any given day. Why don't you choose to be led by the Spirit and so escape the erratic compulsions of a law-dominated existence? ‭‭(Galatians‬ ‭5:16-18 ‭MSG).‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Beloved, are you ready to kill the flesh?

Prayer & Confession of Faith

Dear Lord, I repent of my unfaithfulness, of all the times I have indulged my flesh. I surrender myself to be led by Your Spirit and I put to death all the desires of my flesh. Amen!
