CHANGE THE CHANNEL

September 11:2018

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)

`

Have you ever wondered how many thoughts come to your mind every second, minute and hour of the day? Are you aware that there are billions of thought processes driving through your mind every single day? This stream of thoughts goes on from when you wake up, take a bath, dress up, eat, walk, work, drive, talk, etc. It goes on when you are alone and when you are in the company of others. It continues until you fall asleep at night. All these go to show that we need to give adequate attention to what goes on in our minds because thinking is a constant part of life.

Many are not aware of the fact that our thoughts can affect our words, actions and life outcomes, either positively or negatively; it all depends on the ones we allow ourselves to think on and accept as truth in our minds. The mind is where all of life's battles (challenging situations) are first won and lost before we ever see their physical manifestations.

In 1 Samuel 17:1-53, which is the story of David and Goliath, the Israelites would have lost the physical battle with the Philistines if the fight had started before David came on the scene. This is because there was already a general sense of loss, failure and defeat in the Israelite camp; they had been listening and meditating on Goliath’s threats for forty days, instead of focusing on God’s faithfulness. Their predominant state of mind would have led to their defeat! It is also likely that thoughts of fear may have crossed David’s mind, but he chose to fight Goliath with a God-on-my-side consciousness, which led to his victory.

Brethren, do you know that you have the ability to take control and take charge of your thoughts? Just like how you can easily switch to a different station when a movie or TV programme is boring or offensive, you can just as easily change the direction of your thoughts. You can change a TV channel because you have a control mechanism that enables you to do so. In the same way, God has given you dominion, which enables you to exercise control over your thought processes (amongst other things), and to replace negative thoughts with Godly thoughts.

Beloved, our scripture for today tells us that if a thought is not true (scriptural truth), noble, just, pure, lovely, full of virtue and of good report, we are not to entertain or play with it in our minds. Therefore, if any thought does not line up with the new covenant realities, do not accept it; just change the channel.

Prayer & Confession of Faith

I set my mind on things above because I have the mind of Christ. I refuse thoughts of fear, anxiety, and worry. I refuse any thought that is not in line with God's word. I believe the Word of God and that settles it. Hallelujah!
