TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR THOUGHTS

July 25:2018

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

No matter how mature you think you are as a believer, you must maintain a steady diet of sound doctrine and cultivate the habit of meditating on the word of God on a daily basis. We are bombarded with solicited and unsolicited information daily, either through interactions with people or through the media. People are sharing all kinds of information, and are teaching all kinds of doctrines that are not based on the scriptures or the new covenant principles of God’s Word. A number of these are based on liberal and humanistic philosophies.

There is no vacuum in our minds; if you are not meditating on the word of God, then you must be meditating on something else. The thoughts and information you take in will affect your words, attitude and behaviour; so, it behoves you (it’s your duty) to learn how to sieve through the information that you receive, as you will hear the good, the bad and the weird. It is therefore absolutely essential to recognize the importance of renewing your mind with the word of God. In doing so, you can adequately process thoughts and information through your renewed mindset.

A lady shared an experience of being intrigued by a particular trending dance step which had gone viral on the internet. She watched the video recordings of the dance steps, more out of amusement and curiosity than with an intention to practice the dance step. To her amazement, while watching a video recording which a friend of hers had captured of her dancing, she realized that she was dancing in a similar fashion to the trending dance steps she had been watching on the internet for some time. Subtly, without any deliberate action on her part, she absorbed what her eyes had been feasting on for a while.

You must take charge of the kind of thoughts or information you allow to stay in your consciousness. You can’t stop thoughts from literarily flying over your head, but you can prevent them from lodging and finding a resting place in your consciousness. You must guide your heart and mind diligently by meditating on the right things.

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. - 1 Peter 1:13
