Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:6 (NKJV)

As believers, we are God’s standard in these last days. The world is watching us and looking for human examples to follow. We must allow our conduct to bring edification to others and to be worthy of the gospel of Christ. Our scripture reference for today reminds us to be mindful of what we say. What you say is an expression of your thoughts. Your choice of words says a lot about your personality and your mindset. Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for necessary edification (Ephesians 4:29).

What you say and how you say it matters. In the same vein, what you write, how you write and the platform you use in sharing what you have written matters, especially in this age of the internet - the digital age. For example, you may have heard the phrase, “the internet never forgets”. Something that was written or posted casually on the internet in the past can be pulled up and used to make decisions or judgements about a person’s character long after the conversation has been forgotten by the person who wrote it.

These kinds of situations have cost some persons their relationships, careers and so on. There have been instances where a private conversation between friends on a social platform became a matter for public discussion and debate in the media within a few moments. If you must write or say something, check to see that what you are saying is exactly what you intend to say and that it edifies others.

As you renew your mind with the word of God, the more transformed you will be and the easier it will be for you to always speak in line with God’s word and standard daily. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Be intentional and purposeful about your verbal and written communication. Say the right thing at the right time and help others by what you say.

Prayer & Confession of Faith

I will speak the right words because I know that death and life are in the power of the tongue. I will dispense the life of God everywhere I go. Amen!
