Obeying God

June 29:2018

He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:5 (NIV)

Although we have been saved by grace when we believed and confessed Jesus as our Lord and personal saviour, we are still required to obey God. With salvation comes obedience to God. Of course, we do not obey in order to be saved; salvation comes first and obedience follows.

Obedience goes deeper than duty; it should come from the heart. We are to obey because we want to, not grudgingly because we have to. Obedience to God shows that we love Him. It reveals our faithfulness to Him. It glorifies Him in the world and opens avenues of blessing to us.

Consider how your earthly parents would react when you willing do those things that they have asked of you; with a smile on your face, and a heart full of understanding and love for them, you commit to what is required of you. When you possess such an attitude, you are deemed loyal and a worthy steward; they would entrust more into your hands and consider you an example for others to emulate. So it is in the kingdom of God. When you gladly go about doing God's work with commitment and fervour of Spirit, the Lord will single you out for His use. His reward for your obedience will far outweigh your seeds of obedience.

Beloved, make a conscious decision to obey God and His word no matter the condition or situation you find yourself in. Not only will it bring you closer to God, you will be tremendously blessed through your obedience!
