Your Focus Matters

June 05:2018

Then the Lord said to Moses, make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live. So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
Numbers 21:8-9 (NKJV)

While we are still in this world, we will of necessity go through tough times as believers. How we emerge from such times is dependent on our focus while going through those difficult periods. Our focus at any point fuels our choices, decisions and, ultimately, these influence our direction. God told Moses that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live. This suggests the possibility of being bitten in much the same way people go through trials in life. Survival is tied to focus. Whoever looked up lived. Whoever focused on the serpents or the trials lost the ability to conquer or survive.

When Jesus was faced with His own trial here on earth, He looked beyond the trial. No wonder the Bible admonishes us to look unto Jesus as an example of how to arrive at our desired results and joy: Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). Often times, when we focus, the solution to our trials are released to us. God may lay the idea in our hearts, but until we are calm in our spirit, ignoring every distraction, we may not access those solutions with clarity. At the time of meditation – when deep calleth unto deep in God's presence – we get the answers. Those problems pale and lose their significance. When you dwell in this realm, you will see your God for who He is – your Jehovah Shammah!

Beloved, take your eyes away from the cares and issues of this world. Put your focus on Jesus. Listen intently, for He will speak to you. He will take your hand in His and deliver you. Focus on His love, recalling the great and mighty things He has done for you and others.
