The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.
Proverbs 13:4 (NKJV)

Diligence is defined as careful and persistent work or effort; constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken; persistent exertion of body or mind. Laziness, on the other hand, is the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy; it also means idleness. A diligent person is responsible and reliable and will complete any given task to the absolute best of his ability, even when it seems difficult and boring.

God values diligence and it provokes heaven’s response. The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty (Proverbs 21:5). Diligence will allow us to operate with our best and with much excitement and passion in order to complete our work for the Lord. But when we see work as laborious and demeaning, something not worthy of our time, we will fail God and miss out on many opportunities.

God rewards diligence. Jesus said, And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own (Luke 16:12). In other words, if you are not diligent about small responsibilities assigned to you, how will you be given greater ones?

Beloved, diligence is a key ingredient to success and greatness. You must earnestly endeavour to use the gifts and talents that God has given you and be diligent in every task at hand. God will surely reward your faithfulness in all things.
