September 18:2018

And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s…You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you…Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high…And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.” Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

King Jehoshaphat was enjoying a time of relative peace in the Kingdom when he suddenly got information from his intelligence service that several armies had joined forces to attack Judah. Needless to say, he became very afraid as the enemy armies were already a few hours away!

King Jehoshaphat needed to take action. He gives us a model of what to do when the enemy gives a frontal attack - inquire of the Lord. He went to God in prayer and asked Him what to do about the situation. He did not put his confidence in the ability of his army or the sophistication of his armoury. He went to God!

The Lord told King Jehoshaphat and his people not to be afraid of the great multitude because the battle was His, and they believed. The king then instructed the musicians to go ahead of the army to sing and dance in praise to God. This was a very strange instruction; it was somewhat dangerous to put an ‘ordinary’ choir in front of the enemy.

But, the battle was won as they praised God! This is a model for us to use and win all our battles today. Singing and dancing in the midst of problems is very confusing and annoying to the devil who expects us to act differently in the midst of challenges. He basically gives up and moves on!

Beloved, God’s wisdom is far above our understanding. Dancing, singing and laughing in the face of opposition are divine battle strategies that are guaranteed to work on our behalf. God is moved by our genuine praise! Like King Jehoshaphat, you can win every battle as you praise Him!

Prayer & Confession of Faith

For the things that You have done for me, for all the battle that You have won for me, only You alone deserve my praise, Lord. I will praise You with singing and dancing every day. Hallelujah!
